Bully pup with Staff

Post by paulnb57 » September 22nd, 2016, 6:25 pm

Hi folks!

Around January next year assuming the proposed bitch conceives we will be choosing a Miniature English Bull Terrier pup....we currently have a castrated Staff who is very good with other dogs...
I've been told you shouldn't put a male Bully with another male dog in the same house. I dont really care either way, but if there is any truth to this I'd like to avoid any potential issues.....
The Bully would also be castrated at the appropriate tome....

Is the no two males together just utter drivel or is there any truth in it.....

Cheers!

Well to be honest with you, I never let any of my males near each other, Arthur is in the Kennel most of the time with Maisey & Ferret, Bullseye & Bill are always indoors, but Bill & Bullseye are never out of their crates at the same time, I just don't want to chance it, none of mine have been neutered, the thing about castrated males somehow being "deactivated" is total nonsense, a neutered dog is just as likely to get fighting as one that isn't, some of the bitches get on with each other, but Bonnie does not get on with any of them, Tuppence get on with her mother (Bonnie) she also gets on with Kizzy, but she hates Maisey & Ferret XD, what I will say is if they get on it's a bonus if they don't there are options to avoid any potential bloodbaths ;)

This is how I do things :))

Hope this helps.

See how it goes & keep us posted... Is Harry crate trained?

spot on, dont keep bull breeds now, as i keep lurchers, the ones ive got now are , 1x gsd x grey Buck, and 1 x collie x grey Bryn. Bryn 9 year old ,Buck 4 year old both with there nuts . never had an probs with them, they are kennel dogs in the same kennel .Its a twin size kennel , with a door to separate , both have there own beds, but i always leave the middle door open,as i think Bryn goes in with Buck to sleep lol.I even give raw beef bones to them with the door left open, no prob with them. What it comes down to i think is a dog temp deff.Buck big dog 28in 86 lb , Bryn 25in 60 lb, both dogs have sensitive temps but Buck worse he just big wimpy type temp, starnge really , he loves people, likes other dogs , he dont guard , but nothing to guard really as the kennel/run round the back of me place. Bryn quite as well maybe Buck just followed him. but this type lurchers herding types norm have good temps, a wheaten x grey or pit x grey would prob be bit more dog aggressive in alot of situations . ive had 3 pit x greys in the past, they wereok with other dogs, as i always have my pup round people and dogs from 10 weeks old. But i have heard of quite few pit xs that have been to sharp with other dogs , and deff wheatens xs. So it the type of dog and it temp and upbringing i think, ive had lurchers 30 years, and pit, bullmastffs, and was bought up with staffs as a kid they were more like pit s that are around to day i am 64 yeh old bugger lol. Funny thing i have thought in future what lurcher x i would get, i thought maybe a lab x grey type but be very hsrd to get as they dont breed this x very much, but something with gundog breeding in it mix. Back to the thread lol, i would only castrate a male dog , if it was constantly wanting to fight, even if i tried to train it not to and it was well socialised , and if it had health prob (cancer etc ) then i would do it, but only then .

Health issues is different, but these people who have their dogs done as some quick fix for training or some nonsense emotion through fear of over populating are quite honestly insane & diluded, like neutered dogs don't end up in rescue.... Yeah right...

true , alot do it as you say with over reaction , in the 1st place . as said i was thinking of say maybe bring a male dog pup in couple years time, and put it with my other 2 male lurchers. both are good with other dogs , and the big one quite a passive temp anyway. But i did think that these 2 male dogs get on very well in there kennel set up, maybe a new dog pup, might as they say upset the apple cart, with them. maybe i have to bring the new pup in the house , if i did get another dog. i go for a gun dog type dog if i did, and it would be like the other male dogs keep it nuts on, but this could be couple years down the line , unless the x i want above came up. yes you right regards male dogs people go for easy option to castrate than train them proper in the 1st place .

I also think it's some kind of control issue, they feel they aren't in control if they're not chopping bits off their dogs, not that they would admit it....
