Bulldog mummy

Post by peanut » April 6th, 2013, 3:59 pm

Hi, just a quick introduction. My names Kirsty, I have a 2 year old American Bulldog and a yorkie. I'm looking at starting my AB in weight pulling. I'm hoping to try and focus him and build his confidence because he can be a bit spooky. I'm hoping it's something he will enjoy and we can do together both for mental and physical stimulation. I also run a small business making and embroidering dog bandanna's and dog blankets, any design or wording can be added. Anyways and advice and knowledge you can give me would be most appreciated. :P

Welcome aboard :)

Well American Bulldogs do very well in the weight pull scene, very often ending up with most weight pulled, but of course with lots of practice, as you said confidence is key important with weight pulling, any dog can pull it's just a case of the dog knowing they can pull :)

I'm also an embroider, I put the names and graphics on our collars, leads and weight pull harnesses :))

Very rewarding but soul destroying when it goes wrong lol

Anyway welcome aboard look forward to seeing some pics :)

Hey John.

It is indeed soul destroying when it goes wrong, I do not enjoy spending the hours unpicking when it goes wrong it makes me cry, lol. At the moment I've had a lot of dog bandanna's with Deed not Breed slogan and pictures of bull breeds on them, I watch like a hawk when doing the picture, lol. I'm looking for somewhere that I can get a harness made specifically for my boy??? IS there different types of harness's? Need as much help as possible!

Well you need a weight pull harness as walking harnesses are not allowed in competition, also a weight pull harness has a spreader bar which distributes the weight equally............

Here are some pics :)

and a useful article on weight pull training here:

Any questions don't be afraid to ask :)

Ah excellent, I've been been going through so many websites to find a weight pulling harness that can be made to measure. I will measure the boy up and get in contact. Do you know a rough idea on price or does it really vary on size?
Thanks for the help!
